Iron Pyrite

African Pegmatite produces a high quality Iron Pyrite which contains a substantial amount of Iron (Fe) and S (Sulphur) which is used as an amber/ yellow colourant in the production of glass, it is also used as a reductant in metal refining.

Background

Iron Pyrite was commonly known as fool’s gold due to its resemblance to gold, it is also the most common sulphide mineral. Iron Pyrite was used in the 16th and 17th century as an ignition for firearms due to its high content of Sulphur. Today it is mainly used as a glass colourant which achieves amber shades of glass. Iron Pyrite is the most reliable way of attaining amber glass.

Quality

African Pegmatite’s Iron Pyrite is milled to international standards (below 425 micron) and exported to over 36 glass manufacturers worldwide, this including licensee’s of the Owens Illinois Group.

Application

Iron Pyrite can be utilised in glass colourant, rubber, explosives, Sulphur impregnated compounds and reductant industries. Iron Pyrite also saves on furnace heating costs because of the sulphur which will naturally heat the furnace while colouring the glass.

African Pegmatite also supplies Glass Grade Anthracite, which is used to trim redox levels in your production of glass.
