chrome flour

Chrome Flour

African Pegmatite produces a high quality Chrome Flour (Iron Chromite), which contains high amount of Cr2O3, spanning from 44-46%, which is suitable for the colouring of glass and ceramics.

Background

The Chrome Flour is a naturally occurring ore which is used for various types of colourant spanning from glass to ceramics. Iron Chromite rather referred to as chrome flour because of is granulation size to be sub 45 micron. The reason the Chrome Flour is of such a fine granulation is because the chrome cannot be any coarser than 45 micron. Should the chrome be too coarse then it will cause specks/ spots on the glass produced, the chrome will not melt and will cause unequal colour distribution in the production of glass.

Quality

African Pegmatite’s chrome flour is milled to international standards and exported to over 36 glass manufacturers worldwide, this including licensee’s of the Owens Illinois Group.

Application

Chrome Flour can be utilised in ceramics, glass and refractories.

Green glass colour achieved by chrome flour vary span from Emerald green stains, Georgia green, to Dead leaf greens. This would depend on the amount of chrome flour added in the mixture.

African Pegmatite also supplies Glass Grade Anthracite, which is used to trim redox levels in your production of glass.
